Prenatal Yoga with Kara Mears

Prenatal yoga is designed to support women in any stage of their natal experience. Kara’s classes have participants seeking to conceive, many women in their first, second and last trimesters of pregnancy, and women who are anywhere from 3 weeks to 12 months post-partum. Women come to yoga during their natal year for many reasons: safe and effective exercise, relief from the symptoms of pregnancy, relaxation, preparation for childbirth and mothering, recovery from birth, a chance to build community with other new and expecting mothers, and the opportunity to share women's wisdom in a low-key, familiar, and informative way. You will find a warm, lovely, funny, intelligent, and supportive group of women who have positive birth and recovery experiences.

This afternoon workshop will explore the theme of making space—for the changes in your body and all the feelings that come up in motherhood.  Incorporating yoga asana, gentle hands-on assists, meditation and delighting in light-hearted sharing of women's wisdom, we will gather with the intention to ground, open and rejuvenate. All levels of experience are welcome.

Kara Mears, Registered Nurse and founder of SweetMama Doula, has been practicing and teaching yoga for over a decade. With a focused interest in birth and all aspects of a woman's natal year, she is a Certified Birth Doula (CBD) and a Certified Pranakriya Prenatal Yoga Teacher (CPYT). Kara received her birth and postpartum doula training from Certified Professional Midwife, Michelle L'Esperance of Warm Welcome Birth Services in Northampton, Mass. From 2010-2011 Kara was a prenatal yoga apprentice under Kat Whitney after which she completed her prenatal teaching certification at Kripalu.
